Motivation, Writing, Movies, #IWSG Story Ideas, 🏳️‍🌈 and AI neighborhood

Thank you to everyone who visited last month!
Here's a meme I found about writer motivation:

Movie 🎬  (on Netflix) Ladies First

A misogynist wakes in an alternative reality.

It's not "women rule the world like women," but "women rule the world exactly like men in our reality," so he learns a lesson as to how life is for others. It'd make a smidge more sense if he had been turned into a woman and had to live in the real world. Or if he had trouble navigating the alternative reality because the ruling-class women didn't just mimic the shitty male rule to which he is accustomed.

QUOTE: "Balls [mean strength]? The delicate sack hanging off your body where the slightest tap has you weeping on the ground?"

The signs and statues (especially if you know London) are fantastic.

Still, a funny movie. Worthwhile. πŸ‘
He learns to treat people with decency and respect.
Watch with a pint of Guinness. 🍺

Movie 🎬  GOAT

Netflix animated movie.
Basketball-like sport, but the courts, that's what makes this sport really interesting. Ice pond, a cave with stalactites, lava...
And a team that doesn't practice together.
They've got a LOT to learn and overcome. 🐐
Modo wins the most. "Roots run deep!"
Oh, and the twins are awesome. 🦏🦏

What's about to ruin my life:

Petition (if you're willing to help)

They plan to put it across from apartments and Camelot for Children (a daycare for disabled kids). It's a Neighborhood. It's MY neighborhood.
And the Governor of Pennsylvania is giving them incentives! 🀦‍♀️Desperate times here.

My story ideas are from all over. Several are from life (as I discussed last month). One came from a dream my husband had. Some are from someone else because I have done some ghostwriting, but I can't discuss the details, obviously.

🏳️‍🌈 There are many books, authors, and people who need extra support (this month and always). πŸ˜ΆπŸ§‘πŸΎ‍🏫 Censorship is a battle for everyone who favors freedom and equality.

  1. I hear you about that comparing old writing to new--especially as I finish a rewrite on a book that is two decades old. SO. Much. Growth!

  2. I've always been curious about ghostwriting and the rules ghostwriters have to follow. As to that data center...I hope you can run it out of town. Some towns have blocked them, but I fear this is a thumb-in-the-dike kind of effort.

    1. I'm still trying to figure out HOW to comment on your blog. I know there must be a way to do it without joining Substack. I haven't figured it out.

  3. You offer solid advice here, Jamie. Thank you. Yes, I can see how much I've grown as a writer if I look at my first attempts at writing. Have a beautiful day!

  4. I don't have Netflix, but Ladies First sounds interesting. I'm sorry to hear about the data centre. The very notion of them makes me deeply uncomfortable, so I can't imagine having one in my neighbourhood.

    1. Hopefully it'll get blocked. Not sure if enough people will outweigh the money, and you know it's money.
Is life worth more than money?
      Some lives, all lives?
Disabled kids are expensive to keep alive. So do they get traded for a data center? Is that moral?
(If we're pretending that Christian values matter, what did Jesus do when meeting a disabled child? Tell them that money and robots are worth more? I say "pretending" because there are lawmakers who do make that argument, and I guess I read a very different book. Maybe it was the Spanish name that's spelled the same??? )

  5. I sure hope you can get the data center stopped. That's ghastly.
I thoroughly enjoyed your post. Thanks for stopping by;)

    1. I'm doing the best I can, given my health limitations. The thing is, that warehouse is built and has been empty for months. (Because it's not in an area that Trucks can easily access, so no one wants it.) But
If that mini warehouse is turned into a data center, the two others that are planned in the area will have a legal foothold.
This as drought season and power outage season approaches.

  7. I hope you're able to defeat the data center. Yikes. So sorry that's coming your way. But they are deeply, deeply unpopular. I know there will be lots and lots of pushback.

    1. Yes. But the pushback is from people who don't have a lot of money. I mean, the apartments are owned by a pretty wealthy company, with a wealthier oversight, and a massive developer above that. But... the apartments need repair because they were done shoddy in the 60s and so, despite quadruple rent, it's still one of the cheapest they own.

  8. We were threatened with widening of the main HWY outside our subdivision. Attend that meeting and make your voice heard.

  9. Yes, attend that meeting and make your voice heard! I worry about the environmental cost of data centers. And since AI has used everything that humankind has produced throughout history, the vast profits AI creators are making should be shared with all of humanity. Thanks for your motivation tips, Jamie!

  10. Another trick to stay motivated is to do fun writing prompts occasionally. Low stakes means total creative freedom. My second book idea came from just such a prompt.

  12. Sometimes, I'd read some of my old stories and am surprised at how much I like them. You got that one right.

  13. We're fighting a data center here, too, and I fear the city will ignore our voices as they have for everything else lately. Love the pointers at the top (and have I mentioned how I love your "I stand with" on the sidebar?)

    1. Thanks.
Our city council was "overwhelmed" by the people who showed up, so the vote is delayed, for now. Not a total win, but something.

  14. My daughter watched Goat. I slept through it. I have watched way too many terrible animated kids movies in the last ten years or so, I can't bear to watch another. My son has outgrown them, my daughter is on the cusp.

    One day.

    Soon.

  16. Thank you for your thoughtful, creative post. Those writing tips right at the beginning are just what I needed. And you've given me another reason to subscribe to Netflix! And about that data center, what other changes will AI bring? I hope your community is able to bring about a relocation!

    1. My immediate concern is less about AI and more about health (and then finances, as the cost of upgrading the power grid will be passed to residents, and PPL isn't using the hydroelectric power they own, but piping in power from Florida, because the US is freaking weird).

  17. I'm really sorry they are trying to plant a data center on your neighborhood. Fight the good fight!
P.S. I like some of those tips for staying motivated.
