Medical care in America

 

Explain why it's okay to give medical care to humans in the United States:

Tourism.

I'll ignore the ignorant bs implied in the post, for now.

There's an event coming, the Olympics. 

Which has huge tourism dollars. 

But if people from other nations won't come because they could be denied care if injured, that event could be canceled or moved. A huge revenue loss for America. 

But, okay, instead of possibly spending a fraction of a percent on caring for people, lets toss several BILLIONS to fund putting lawyers and a judge at EVERY medical center in America. And if someone needs emergency medical attention, unconscious and bleeding out, we can pause life saving care to have a full court trial. FOR EVERY PATIENT 100% of the time. 

So if you have a heart attack, instead of saving your life, medical care can wait until after your hearing.

"But I'm an American."

PROVE IT.

Better be able to prove it even when you're unconscious and seconds from death... whoops, too long, ah well. Next! 

That's what MAGA wants. Full court trials before treatment for EVERY person seeking medical care anywhere in the United States. You can believe that only people with illegal status will suffer, but honestly EVERYONE who doesn't have a private personal physician on call 24/7 is going to suffer. Meaning the billionaires will be okay, but everyone else is screwed. But hey, at least we'll spend a few billion to hire lawyers and judges in places where there's barely money for a doctor and nurse. Excellent spending, as always, save 1 million dollars by spending 600 Billion. Great economic idea.

Medical #AtoZChallenge

"But, he just started 2 new meds."

"Always something with you two." 

Am I supposed to advocate for myself, and now my husband, or not? 

Because he did start a new med last week. And there's another for pick up at the pharmacy, JUST texted from the pharmacy that it was filled. 

No, his diabetes is not well controlled. That's why he is on new meds. 

"Don't walk for more than 20 minutes. But try to walk, very slowly, at least <impossible goal> a week. But stay off your feet." 

What???

Stuff I endured when hospitalized: 

1. I should not have had to experience another asthma attack while hospitalized.
2. My elbow should not have been injured, and that ignored, while hospitalized.
3. My left big toe should not have been injured and ignored while hospitalized.
4. I should not have been prescribed an overdose of aspirin.
5. I was discharged so fast that another patient's information was attached to my discharge summary. HIPPA violation?
6. Arrangements should have been made to get me home safely, as I could not yet walk well enough on my own (especially on steps).
7. I wonder if manual blood pressure readings could have been taken in the ER, instead of letting my left arm turn purple. Especially as my right arm wasn't working at the time. Could one hand/ limb have been protected? 
8. Is it possible, in the future, for my respiratory condition to be taken seriously at the onset?

I tried to get a lawyer to help, but nope, no luck. 

My big toe is finally starting to heal, a year and half later. 

Doctor Feelings

When doctors 👨‍⚕️👩‍⚕️🧑‍⚕️ dismiss my respiratory issues 

😒😵‍💫 I feel unsafe, ignored, and scared

🤔 I would prefer medical personnel to admit that breathing IS IMPORTANT and should be prioritized

I presently have no idea how to improve this situation. I'm just expressing my mental and emotional state because I'm upset.

Skynet, Artificial Intelligence, Matrix - We are ruled

There are many movies that show Man creating a machine, giving it a way to "think," and then being conquered by the machines. Terminator,  Artificial Intelligence,  The Matrix, ... Seriously, it's a long list. We watch them and ask if it could happen. Then Robin Williams in Bicentennial Man makes us feel all better.

But here's the thing... Maybe we need to look more at where we are right now. Because people aren't going to be conquered directly. We rise up,  we fight back, we have spirit. Only someone or something that can break that can rule us.

John and I have health insurance. It is mandatory in the US to have. Not just because of some Obama Care law-- that is just what made it easier to get. You need it because without it, getting health care is like trying to eat the moon. I've been there.

Recently, our health insurance sent out computer generated letters that changed our prescriptions. Not just us-- everyone John works with who has a prescription got these letters. Our drugs that we need in order to live well have been changed.

Did our doctor decide this? No. Did any doctor look at a chart and make this decision?  No. Perhaps a pharmacist at least checked into all this to be sure it was safe? Nope, keep dreaming.

A computer made health care decisions. It decided to have people try other drugs. Not because the ones they are on were not working, not because the ones prescribed weren't in the best interest-- the computer looked at costs and decided that was all that mattered. Side effects and interactions be damned. I know this because I had to ask why John was put back on something he had been taken off of previously. It's cheaper. Never mind that it didn't work.

We are only human,  after all. Cheaper to kill. That is the logic of a machine-- to weigh the cost of continued life against the money saved. Numbers.

And because we aren't rich, we must obey. Comply or die. I had to fight in the system to get John the right drugs. His supply ran out in the meantime. My best friend had surgery last month. The products she is supposed to use to STAY ALIIVE haven't come. Computers held them up three times. She's had to call manufacturers and beg for samples. She had to beg for her life.

Tell me again how it's all just science fiction and how the machines couldn't possibly win.

We don't know how to turn them off, but we already can't outwit them.
