#AtoZchallenge Yes I can be honest about Zipper day

Yes I can be honest about Zipper day

Zipper Day is April 29

Gideon Sundback invented the modern zipper in 1913. It got a patent calling it a “Separable Fastener” in 1917.
The B.F. Goodrich company coined the word zipper. They used them on boots and pouches.
YKK is a Japanese company that makes roughly half of all the zippers on earth.
Do you have a YKK zipper?

National Honesty Day

Honesty Day is April 30.

As you can see, I used a Z post on the Y day.
But come on, it was ZIPPER day! It's not like a better Z holiday was going to come along!
So, to be honest, I'm making this a double post, and celebrating Y as "Yes, I can be Honest," though that holiday won't be until Z day. Confused? Well, sometimes the truth is messy.

What I've done here is make a lie of commission. That's when you twist the truth, usually so it's more favorable.
Not to be confused with a lie of omission. That's when you leave part of the truth out.
A lie of influence is when you add untrue or unrelated information to the truth.
Sometimes there are false promise lies. That's when someone makes a promise they don't actually intend to keep.
A white lie is when you smudge the truth to be polite, tactful, or to protect someone's feelings.
Fabrications are lies that are total fiction. There's little to no truth involved in these.
The big difference between that and bold-faced lie is reception. While people might believe a well-done fabrication, no one believes a bold-faced lie.
A compulsive liar will lie in order to tell people what they want to hear.
Excessive white matter in the brain's prefrontal cortex seems to be the cause of pathological lying.

How often are you honest?

#AtoZchallenge XoXo Kiss Your Mate Day

XoXo Kiss Your Mate Day

Kissing is an important part of romance and intimacy.
Signing letters with an ‘X’ dates back to the Middle Ages. Back then, very few people were literate.
The Greek letter “Chi” became the Greek way to write Christ.
It's said that people often kissed this symbol as a sign of love and respect for their savior.
But what about non-Chritians? There are records the illiterate of other faiths, especially the Jewish people, signed with the letter O.
On the other hand, the symbol x is the letter taw in early Hebrew.

There's another theory that the letter X looks like two people kissing. ><
And there's also the tic-tac-toe theory. One of the oldest games in the world, the X and O symbols became popular when people started playing it on paper. Being easy to draw/ write may be why they also came to stand for hugs and kisses.

Do you enjoy kissing?

#AtoZchallenge Words or Work with your Daughter

Three excellent holidays today!

Morse Code Day

Words made in Morse Code are formed by letters represented by combinations of long and short signals of light or sound.

But if you'd rather just write words, one after another, creating sentences and then paragraphs and eventually making a whole story...

Tell a Story Day

You can make up your own story to tell. You could recount real events to tell a story. Or you could read an existing story from a book to someone.

Storytelling is an ancient practice used to hand down knowledge from one generation to the next.
There's a Storytime Blog Hop with Speculative Fiction going on right now if you need some inspiration.

Maybe you have daughter to read a story to and teach her how to form her name in Morse code. And perhaps today you'll take her to work.

Take Your Daughter to Work Day

Give girls direct attention and insight into work opportunities! As some parents can't take their own child to work for pratical or safety reasons, it has expanded into Aunts, Uncles, or close family friends taking "a daughter" to work. Of course there was contoversy, so the day has turned into "Take Your Son or Daughter to Work Day."

What's your favorite movie where Morse Code is used?
Will you tell a story today?
Did you see any offspring at an adult workplace today?

#AtoZchallenge Vending Machine or Voorhees NJ for #NationalPretzelDay

National Pretzel Day

You could celebrate by getting a bag of pretzels from a vending machine. Or you could buy some freshly baked pretzels, perhaps at the Voorhees, NJ location of the Philly Pretzel Factory.
Don't know the history of that franchise?
The show Undercover Boss did an episode on them!
And yes, if you were in Philadelphia at the turn of the millienum, these were the people on street corners or in small gas stations selling a bag of 4 soft pretzels for $1.

  • The Pennsylvania Dutch immigrants introduced pretzels to North America in the 19th century.
  • An American consumes about 1.5 pounds of pretzels per year.
  • Philadelphians consume twelve times that average, about 18 pounds of pretzels a year.
  • Pennsylvania produces 80% of the nation’s pretzels (hard and soft).

What's your favorite pretzel topping?

#AtoZchallenge Unbelievable Zucchini Bread and Penguins

Unbelievable Zucchini Bread

It's a day to celebrate zucchini bread. Here are two unusual recipies I found (click images) :

Since there's a shortage of zucchini in most of the world right now, I present you with a backup holiday:

World Penguin Day

Penguins naturally live in Antarctica, South Africa, Chile, Peru, Australia, New Zealand, and the Falkland Islands and Galapagos Islands.

Do you like zucchini bread?
Can you share a fun fact about penguins?

#AtoZchallenge Try Pigs-in-a-Blanket Today

Try Pigs-in-a-Blanket

It's Pigs-in-a-Blanket day.
In the US, Pigs-in-a-Blanket are hot dogs or sausages (usually mini size) wrapped in biscuit or croissant dough and baked.

If you've had them, what is your favorite Pigs-in-a-Blanket recipie or pre-made brand?
If you've never have them, will you try these today?
What other food would be good "in a blanket"?

#AtoZchallenge Scout Leaders of Girls #LovetoRead

Scout Leaders of Girls

National Girl Scout Leader’s Day! Use #GirlScoutLeadersDay to honor the adult volunteers who help to make the Girl Scout program a success.

It's also EARTH DAY!
National Earth day was to be the first nationwide environmental protest "to shake up the political establishment and force this issue onto the national agenda".
The Environmental Protection Agency was formed as a direct result of America's first Earth day forty-seven years ago.

Celebrate World Book Day on April 23.
World Book Day celebrates reading, authors, and books.
Post about why you #LovetoRead on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.

I love to read because it's an emotionally rewarding experience, it often inspires me, and it improves who I am.
A good book makes me feel for the characters. Love, hate, longing, hope, sorrow, and so many other emotions are brought up in the safe pages of a book. It's a thrilling experience; one that I find movies and television can rarely supply.
Reading inspires me to write. It sometimes inspires me to try new activities or to approach old ones in a new and better way. It gives me ideas about how life could be. Great characters give me hope.
Reading improves who I am by expanding my vocabulary, stretching my mind, motivating me to live life to the fullest, and keeping my imagination active. I feel that people who say they don't like to read just haven't found the right book and comfortable space to read it in. I'm proud to be alive in a time where literacy is generally encouraged. Books, the words we leave behind, are our gift to humanity.
Click the cup to go to a safe and legitimate site a friend of mine showed me. One free click can change the world.

Do you know any Girl Scout Leaders?
What's something nice you did for the Earth to celebrate Earth day?
Will you share why you Love to Read on a social media site?

Reading Writing Arithmetic too much homework makes me sick When it is time to pass the test Kindergarten is the best

(There is nothing explict or "parental advisory" worthy in that song.)

Ways to celebrate National Kindergarten Day:
  • Thank a Kindergarten teacher or helper.
  • Watch the Kindergarten Cop movie

Today is also my Tenth Wedding Anniversary.

Feel free to leave me tin, aluminum, or diamond jewelry. Ha ha ha! I'm joking. Unless you really want to...

#AtoZchallenge Quality Volunteers are Worth Celebrating

Volunteer Recognition Day

A quality volunteer shows up when they say they will and is dedicated to the assigned task. They don't ask for thanks, but today they should get it anyway.

Any volunteers to get a VHS tape to turn into a YouTube video?
I'm only partly joking.
I was a "Big Helper in Action" on Nickelodeon's "The Big Help" in 1995. I'm Hospital Volunteer Girl!
The Internet seems to only recall celebrities and only has ads about getting trees planted and parks redone. But, at least that year, it was about volunteering in your community in any way you could. There were 30-second commercials that offered ideas. I'm certain of this because I made one. My friend Megan filmed it. My friend and fellow volunteer, Logan, was in some of it with me. I have a copy buried in the VHS library. I wish I could share it with you today because maybe it'd inspire you.

Volunteering at the hospital was one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. I gave over 600 hours, all by pure choice (my school did not require volunteer work, or offer an incentive for it). I was in several transport areas, where we helped move patients (usually wheeling people to the exit after discharge), delivered flowers from the front desk to patient rooms, or ran urgent samples to the lab (before the pneumonic tubes were installed). I also volunteered on a floor, which involved getting water for everyone twice a shift and answering phones. Plus, I was in radiology, where I put away X-rays in the alphabetical-color-coded filing rooms. I made lots of friends and got a free meal for every few hours I was there. (Contrary to popular belief, our hospital cafeteria was filled with yummy goodness. Doctors eat there. People who could afford five-star food ate there because it was pallet pleasing.) Plus, I came away with vast knowledge and life experience. My resume and college applications always carried that extra gold star.

Have you ever volunteered for something? Do you know a volunteer you can thank today?

#AtoZchallenge Phew! Praise for Phytochemicals in Garlic!

National Garlic Day

Phytochemicals, such as those in garlic, reduce the oxidative damage to cells, thus fighting various diseases, such as cancer. Chop that up on your pizza and eat it!

This isn't an alternative fact... Newspaper Columnists Day is real!
The National Society of Newspaper Columnists created this day. The date of April 18th is in honor of Ernie Pyle, a Pulitzer Prize winning columnist killed in World War II.

#AtoZChallenge Make sure your taxes are filed or you will sink like the Titanic

M #AtoZChallenge holidays of April
This one is a stretch again:
Make sure your taxes are filed or you will sink like the Titanic

For those of us in the United States, April 15 is known as the last day to file income tax returns. Procrastinators, like my parents, will run to the post office at the last possible second. (Or hit submit on online forms, because that means EVEN MORE SECONDS! Ha ha.) I don't know anyone who actually likes this "holiday," so how about if we move on to another?

Titanic Remembrance Day

In 1912, over 1522 people died when the "unsinkable ship" sank.

This is also a depressing holiday. NEXT!

Husband Appreciation Day

The third Saturday in April is intended to honor husbands without children (the guys who get left out on Father's Day). All good husbands are worth appreciating, so find one (yours, or a friend who fits the bill, or one married to your sister, etc) and give them a pat on the back today.
Jamie's Husband
That's my sexy hubby. Love!

Will you participate any of these holidays and in what way?

The way to celebrate this holiday is as self-explanatory as it gets.

But if, for some reason, you can't get outside, or even get to a window, here's another holiday going on:

Pan-American Day

Pan-Americanism. the idea or advocacy of a political alliance or union of all the countries of North, Central, and South America. a movement for or the idea or advocacy of close economic, cultural, and military cooperation among the Pan-American countries.
